Burkes-2.jpg

I was born and raised in Midland. I graduated from Midland Christian and received an Associate of Science degree from Midland College and then attended Texas A&M University, where I received a Bachelor’s in Human Resource Development with a Minor in Business.

I have been married for seven years to Dr. Jonathan Burkes, who works as an Orthopedic Joint/Trauma Surgeon at West Texas Orthopedics. I am also a stay-at-home mom to our three daughters, Betsy (5), Lacey (3), and Brecklyn (7 Months) and have developed and currently manage our real estate holdings.

My husband and I lived in Kansas City for 5 years and in Minneapolis for 1 year while he did his Residency and Fellowship training. I became politically active in the Republican Party in both cities and served as Secretary for the Johnson County Young Republicans in Kansas, and in Minnesota I was a National Delegate to the Republican Convention, State Treasurer for the

Minnesota Young Republicans, and a Senate District Board Member. When we moved back to Midland, I helped form our Midland County Young Republicans Club, where I serve as Treasurer, and joined the Midland County Republican Women’s Club where I serve as a board member.

My political journey in Midland started when the City of Midland notified homeowners in my neighborhood with the intent to annex part of and rezone the Nueva Vista Golf Course for incompatible development. During that process, I

learned which leaders respond, which leaders will discuss the issues with you, and which leaders act and stand by what they say they will do.

During the Save Nueva Vista Campaign, my neighbors and I canvassed multiple neighborhoods, talking to everyone and it was resounding that Midlanders want to be listened to and want a plan for future growth before it occurs. At times, they also felt defeated and unheard.

Please understand though, my campaign for City Council isn’t just about a golf course.  I want to support police officers and firefighters and promote investments in critical infrastructure like roads and utilities. We all know that not everybody will agree on everything, but I believe every Midlander deserves to be heard and their views and opinions should be given due consideration by the City Council on any and all issues before our city. That’s why I am running.

I plan to respond, discuss, listen and stand by what I say I will do.  This issue inspired me to run and I’m ready to represent District 4 and keep my focus on District 4.

As a mother of three, I can tell you, I want to keep things simple, and trust me, my platform is simple. I will listen to the citizens in District 4 and be their representative on the council.
